Don’t envy the end state — Kelford Labs Daily

“Jane Marketer makes $100 million every single week, with this one weird email trick.”

“Todd Influencer’s new marketing course made $50,000 in the first second of sales.”

You see these posts all the time, too, right?

I know people see them because they try to copy them. They look at the massive, almost ridiculous success of a few marketing influencers and they think: I want that.

The problem, though, is they want the success, not the struggle. They want the end state, not the effort.

You know that famous influencer whose courses fly off the digital shelf? How many years and how much money have they spent developing their skills and programs?

That marketer who’s promising to turn you into a $100 million consultant? How many businesses did they start, and how much fame did they have, before they ever started hawking courses and templates?

If we want the success of famous marketers and influencers, we can’t start at their end state. We can’t skip the years of trial-and-error, the trials and tribulations of failed attempts and appeals to fame and notoriety.

I mean, you’re successful in your business, right? What if someone came up to you and said, “I want the success you have, right now, without putting in the years of effort or energy.”

What would you tell them? What would you think about them?

You’d surely agree there are a few tips you could offer that could aid them, help them along, speed up their journey. But you wouldn’t think they could jump to where you are with one weird trick or one simple marketing technique.

The same is true with LinkedIn influencers, course-sellers, and template-makers:

They didn’t make it where they are with a weird trick. They made it to where they are with effort, energy, and an awful lot of trial-and-error.

They can smooth your path, they can assist with your steering. But they can’t give you the one simple trick for skipping the struggle.

Because it doesn’t exist.

So don’t envy their end state. Emulate their effort.

And you’ll get where you’re going.
