Bad news: You’re a marketer.

I know, I know, that’s not how you see yourself.

But to run a business, any business, you’ve got to market it, too.

Did you know that even electricity needed to be actively marketed for people to want it? It didn’t catch on by itself.

So whatever it is you do, no matter how good or novel or useful it is, you’ve got to market it to make it work.

Which means you’re part marketer. And that’s the bad news.

The good news is that you don’t have to overthink it, just think about it like this:

Marketing is merely demonstrating value at a distance.

So all you have to do is spend a little bit of time, every day, demonstrating how you work, and who you do that work for.

In places and at times when your ideal customers will see it.

Don’t overthink it, don’t try to optimize it. Just do one thing, every day, that shows off how you work and why you’ve chosen to work that way.

Embrace the part of you that’s a marketer, and you can spend less time thinking and stressing about it.

But if you neglect the marketer in you, you’ll find yourself worrying, stressing, and obsessing over your lack of traction and attention.

So be a marketer, a little bit, sometimes.

So you don’t have to think about marketing all the time.
