You need to get into the market.

You can’t improve in isolation — Kelford Labs Daily

There’s a dangerous tendency to try to perfect our offering before we offer it.

To get everything ideal and optimized before it’s actually marketed to anyone.

To make sure it will work, before we know whether it can work.

What happens instead, though, is the offering that makes sense to the entrepreneur doesn’t actually work for the market. Maybe the value is off, or the pricing or the actual delivery.

In any case, the problem is that it’s already optimized. It’s already set up to scale. It’s already finessed and polished and set in stone.

So when it finally enters the market and gets rejected or ignored, it’s so much harder to change and improve because everything’s already been automated, everything’s already been streamlined, everything’s already been invested in.

Which makes the necessary work of changing that much harder to do, that much harder to stomach.

Better instead to test our offering in the market, by marketing it, before we try to optimize it.

Because no one, and nothing, can improve in isolation. We need outside feedback from the market, from actual buyers and prospects. Not just ourselves, our friends, our colleagues, or ChatGPT.

The only thing that tells us for sure if something will sell is if it sells.

Which means we need to get out there and sell it.

Before we spend all our time perfecting it.
