Entertaining marketing — Kelford Labs Daily

We took a client through our Marketing Rangefinder workshop last week and we solicited some feedback from the participants at the end.

We asked them how they knew it was valuable. We wanted to know the moment they realized the workshop was worth the time, energy, and resources they put into it.

You want to know what they said?

They said, “When we realized it was fun.”

They even said it was more than that, it was entertaining.

This particular client is in executive training and development, so they’ve been through (and even created) a lot of workshops.

And ours stood out because it was actually enjoyable to go through, unlike every other marketing workshop or course they’d taken in the past.

Marketing work will always be, to some extent, difficult. It’s creative and it’s scientific. It’s simple, but it’s also complex.

But that doesn't mean it has to always feel like work. Like a slog or a chore.

It can feel fun.

How? By changing our frame of mind. By seeing ourselves as detectives looking for clues, rather than mere marketers looking for messages.

By approaching it as a process of discovery, not whole-cloth invention.

By seeing it as something we enjoy doing, not as something we dread.

By entertaining the idea that it can be entertaining.

Because it can be.
