Here’s what to focus on — Kelford Labs Daily
What you can overdeliver on.
You’ve heard that focus is the key to growth.
But if you’re good at many things, how do you decide what to focus on?
I’m going to share a question I ask all of my clients before we work on their messaging.
Because before we can write compelling messages that get noticed by prospects, we have to know what those prospects value most. So we can demonstrate that value at a distance via content or promotion.
I ask my clients this:
“Of all the services you may provide, or products you might sell, which single one, if you stopped selling it, would eliminate the most value?”
Basically, which of your services or products, if it simply went away, would take most of your business with it?
That’s how I knew my business needed to focus more on message design: It’s what our best clients needed most, even though we were offering more services and add-ons.
But by focusing on what we’re best at, and what our best clients need most, we’re able to overdeliver on our promises.
And we’re able to sum up what our business does in a phrase, like, “We show you the way to always knowing what to say.” And the right prospects for us want exactly that.
That focus is what leads to referrals, return clients, and growth.
So take a moment and ask yourself that question again:
What offering, if it went away, would take the most business with it?
And consider whether that’s all you should be doing.
