Patience is a shield — Kelford Labs Daily
“If you don’t select a goal to point you in a specific direction, you’re likely to move in circles. You’ll do whatever is at the forefront of your mind, even if it contradicts other actions you might have taken just moments ago.”

— Ayelet Fishbach, Get It Done

Do you suffer from “shiny tactic syndrome”?

That’s the constant temptation to try something new in your marketing. Something you just learned about, heard about, or saw a competitor or peer try out.

But all it does is make us spin in circles, not making progress in any particular direction.

And then, of course, that lack of progress motivates us to try even more things, even more shiny tactics and new ideas.

Over and over, in an endless circle.

But the thing about marketing is that there’s almost nothing you can do today to make a sale tomorrow unless what you sell is something people tend to buy on impulse. And most of us don’t.

No, what we do today, and tomorrow, and the day after that, for weeks and weeks, builds toward sales in the coming weeks and months.

It’s a slow and steady process of progress. Which benefits from patience.

Because if we’re changing tactics or tacks every other day, we’re not getting closer to our goals.

We resetting our progress back to zero.

We’ve got to resist shiny tactic syndrome and give our marketing time to actually work.

Otherwise, we’ll just end up exactly where we are today, with nothing to show for it but dizziness and frustration.

Instead, we can move ahead in a single direction, wielding patience like a shield against distraction.
