The secret to succeeding at something — Kelford Labs Daily
Is getting it done.
“In just about every realm, completion is infinitely better than adding superfluous steps that don't add value. And completion is something to be proud of:
In order to succeed at something, you have to get it done.”
— Greg McKeown, Effortless
Let’s sit with that a little longer:
“In order to succeed at something, you have to get it done.”
So much of what holds us back from what we want to accomplish in our marketing, our business, or our daily work are superfluous tasks that don’t help.
They’re a mixture of obligations and distractions that keep us from focusing on what actually matters, and what truly counts.
Like plans we didn’t action but feel guilty about leaving behind. Or goals we didn’t achieve but feel obligated to keep aspiring to.
So as we enter the end of the year, remember this:
Anything that isn’t actively helping is passively hurting your ability to achieve what you want.
Maybe it’s last year’s marketing plan that you stopped working—because it didn’t work—but haven’t said goodbye to yet. It’s time to move on to something that will work because you’ll want to work on it.
Maybe it’s the goals you made last January that you didn’t hit because you didn’t actually care about them. It’s time to figure out what you actually want to focus on so you stay focused on it.
Completing something is infinitely better than leaving something better unfinished.
Which means it wasn’t actually better, it just looked that way.
So focus on what you want to do, and you’ll find yourself doing it.
And that’s infinitely better than the alternative.
